Ethylene Oxide – We have to pay attention to toxic ingredients!

Ethylene Oxide is a known breast cancer carcinogen found in shampoo and perfumes.  Inhalation of the said substance is toxic.

Symptoms of exposure may include dizziness, convulsions, seizures and coma.  Laboratory animals exposed to ethylene oxide have also developed liver cancer.  Another possible effects on humans is cataracts.  Workers who have been exposed to low levels over time had developed risks to cataracts.

Reproductive effects of the chemical include genetic mutations and a high rate of miscarriages.

Ethylene Oxide and other cancer causing substances should not be included in personal care products.  Human beings use such products for hygienic purposes and as such are exposed in different and multiple ways everyday.

Regulation of toxic substances should be imposed with a heavy fine for violators.  Public health and public safety issues should be studied thoroughly. The government should always make sure that its people are safe and always informed.
